An identity for the new women's ice hockey team of MMHC. The salamander — a symbol of fire, passion and strength — answers the Vipers' reptilian heritage with a team that sets the ice on fire. Anglicism preserved to keep the spirit of the original brand.
The Vipers, founded in 1969, are an ice hockey team based in Montpellier, competing in the national D2 championship. The construction of the Végapolis ice rink has accelerated the growth of ice hockey in Montpellier, a sport previously relatively unknown in the region. The MMHC wishes to launch their women's ice hockey team next year and is therefore seeking a distinct identity. How can we encourage the public to attend matches of a women's team in a predominantly male sport? The salamander has been a symbol of fire since ancient times, representing passion and strength — and as an amphibian closely related to reptiles, it keeps a linguistic and animal bridge with the Vipers. A team that sets the ice on fire — burning with as much passion as their male counterparts.
